Cowcreek JR Cowhorse Bit

JR Cowhorse bit is a great step up from an O Ring for young horses, re-schooling or going back to a softer bit with educated horses. It is designed to encourage a horse to break at the poll for a more natural collection and encourages lateral bend. The JR Cowhorse is a short gag bit often used to encourage elevation in the front end and to re-balance a horse before a jump or into the pocket on a barrel.....

We like to adjust this bit to fit with one wrinkle in the horse's mouth and a loose curb strap to allow 2-3 fingers.

Fun Fact: In England this bit is known as a Tom Thumb and is predominantly used in showjumping and cross country as it is favored for its ability to encourage a horse to lift and round its frame

The 3-Piece dog bone curved mouthpiece is made from stainless steel with a copper roller centre. The three piece mouthpiece creates more of a U shape instead of a V making it more gentle then a single joined mouthpiece. The thinner mouthpiece will put more pressure on the horse's mouth allowing the rider to feel more. Pressure is distributed across the tongue and allows the bit to work on the outside corner bars. The small copper roller encourages the horse to relax and salivate.

The smooth curved square mouthpiece is made from stainless steel. The curved square mouth works off the corners of the mouth providing a clear direct message for horses that need firm contact and discourages them from leaning on the bit.This mouthpiece should be used by an experience rider with soft hands. The mouthpiece will help with a horse that is developing resistance.

Blue Steel Bit when exposed to saliva/moisture and oxygen creates a surface layer of oxidisation - rust - which is what gives the sweet tingly feeling in the horses mouth - encouraging salivation.

Port mouthpiece reduces pressure on the tongue and helps open the airway. This prevents the horse from using its tongue to soften the bit's effect. There are low ports that only have a slight rise, as well as high ports that put some pressure on the horse's palate.

The curved mouthpiece and center barrel are made of stainless steel. The curve allows even pressure distribution across the tongue. The center barrel protects the tongue from being pinched in the center joint.
